 Watch D.O.G.S.

Will you be our "Heroes of the Hallway!"
WATCH D.O.G.S. is one of the nation’s largest and most respected school-based, family, and community engagement, organizations in the country. In 1998, the very first WATCH D.O.G.S. program launched at Gene George Elementary in Springdale, AR. Today, more than 6,800 schools across the country have launched a WATCH D.O.G.S. program of their own. Each school year hundreds of thousands of fathers and father-figures make a positive impact on millions of children by volunteering millions of hours in their local schools through this amazing one-of-a-kind program.

Watch D.O.G.S. are heroes in the eyes of the students and school staff.

You help around the school by:
  • monitoring hallways,
  • interacting on the playground,
  • assisting in the lunchroom,
  • helping with car duty during arrival and dismissal,
  • and positively engaging with students in the classrooms.

Our Objectives:
  1. Safety: Be on watch against any potential problems and contact the office if needed.
  2. Support Education: Be a positive role model to you student and the entire student body. We encourage Watch D.O.G.S. to interact with students in order to sow the seeds of success.

Program Benefits
  • Students gain positive male role models.
  • Schools gain an extra set of eyes and ears. The presence of a father or father figure will provide an additional deterrent to bullying, enhance a sense of security in the building, and will help to create an environment conducive to learning.
  • Fathers get a glimpse of their students’ everyday world and learn about the increasingly complex challenges and decisions today’s youth are facing. As a result, they can learn to relate better to their student and hopefully connect with them.
  • Fathers gain a greater awareness of the positive impact they can have on their student’s life in three critical areas including: academic performance, self-esteem, social behavior.
  • Due to budget shortfalls and cutbacks, often teachers are presented with larger classrooms each year. The WatchDOGS volunteers provide real and important help for the teachers and the students.

Ready to be a Watch DOG?
  1. DPS clearance (background check): NEISD requires all volunteers to submit a Volunteer Criminal History Record Check form. Please plan ahead as it can take 1 to 2 weeks to process. You can fill out the form at the NEISD web site here: https://portal.neisd.net/vchrc/Default.aspx?SOURCE=V. The district will email you as soon as you are clear. If you applied to volunteer during previous school years and were approved, you do not need to re-apply to volunteer for the current school year. The volunteer program will automatically resubmit your background check every 2 years. You can check the status of your application by calling the school's front desk at 210-407-1600. You must be clear (approved by the district) to proceed.
  2. WatchDOGS t-shirts (optional!): You may purchase an official WATCH D.O.G.S. t-shirt (short or long sleeve, as long as it is white with the WD logo on the front). Access the online store here: https://store.dadsofgreatstudents.com/shop
  3. Schedule a day: Contact the office at (210) 407-1600 to schedule your Watch D.O.G.S. day. You may sign up for one day in the fall semester and one in the spring.
